Violence against women and girls is a serious human rights violation. The consequences of violence are severe for individuals, families, communities, and society as a whole.
Violence can occur even in young people’s relationships, and experiences of violence can continue throughout life. Violence also harms children who witness it. We must not turn a blind eye to violence against women.
Different forms of violence are:
- physical violence
- psychological violence
- sexual violence
- stalking and coercive control
- economic violence
- honor-based, cultural, or religious violence
- digital violence
! Violence is never the victim’s fault.
! The perpetrator is always responsible.
! Nothing justifies violence.
Ask for help – don’t stay alone, don’t feel ashamed! Violence is never the victim’s fault.
Leaving an abusive relationship can be difficult for many different reasons. However, it is important to seek help, as violence in relationships usually continues and escalates. Witnessing violence at home is also harmful to children. Help is available.
