Can I participate if I don’t speak Finnish?

You are welcome to take part in activities organised by Neighbourhood Mothers even if you don’t speak Finnish. Activities are organised in several languages and Neighbourhood Mothers have a wide range of language skills. We can also find a Neighbourhood Mother with the same language skills as you, so you can get to know our activities in the comfort of your own language.

I’m not a mother. Can I participate?

You can participate even if you don’t have children. Our activities are for all women who have moved to Finland, not just mothers!

Are the activities free of charge?

Participation in the Neighbourhood Mother activities is free of charge. There is no charge for catering or participating in activities at Neighbourhood Mother Cafés or groups.

I want to become a Neighbourhood Mother. How can I join?

I’m glad you’re interested in becoming a Neighbourhood Mother! First think about what kind of activities you are interested in: whether you want to organise community activities in your area or help women with one-to-one meetings. Also, think about how much time you can commit to volunteering. Then check the “Get involved” page for dates of upcoming trainings and apply. Once you have filled in the application form, you will be contacted by the Neighbourhood Mothers’ coordinator.

What is the benefit of being a Neighbourhood Mother?

As a Neighbourhood Mother, you can use your skills, grow your social networks and do good while getting to know women in similar situations. You can support the integration of other women who have moved to Finland and make new friends. Welcome to our wonderful community!

Can men participate in the activities?

The activities are mostly aimed at women only. Men can participate in activities organised by Neighbourhood Mothers, which are specifically mentioned as being open to the whole family, including men.
