Celebrating Women’s Week 2025 with Joy, Strength, and Togetherness

International Women’s Week 2025 was nothing short of spectacular! Neighbourhood Mothers from across Finland came together to celebrate the power of women, filled with creativity, connection, and meaningful conversations.

Celebrations Begin in Lappeenranta and Imatra

The festivities kicked off midweek, with Neighbourhood Mothers in Lappeenranta hosting a vibrant International Women’s Day event on March 6th. 60 Neighbourhood Mothers gathered to celebrate womanhood with laughter, joy, and heartfelt conversations.

Meanwhile, in Imatra, a beautiful celebration unfolded on the eve of International Women’s Day. The event was packed with fun activities and thought-provoking discussions, emphasizing the strength and resilience within each of us. The Neighbourhood Mothers showed that the power to create change starts with ourselves.

Artistic Expression in Helsinki

In Helsinki, celebrations started early on the evening of March 5th. Neighbourhood Mothers gathered at the cultural center STOA (Visit an external site. The session was facilitated by Ingrid André, an inspiring artist, dancer, and psychosomatic coach. The relaxing evening set the perfect tone for the week ahead.

The following day, Neighbourhood Mothers from the capital region attended the exclusive pre-opening of ”Crossing Borders: Travelling Women Artists in the 1800s” at the Ateneum Art Museum. This powerful exhibition showcased the lives and works of courageous women artists who ventured to Germany in the 19th century to pursue their dreams. As part of the ”Ladies, RISE AND SHINE” event — a collaboration between the City of Helsinki, Ateneum Art Museum, INY ry, and Neighbourhood Mothers from Nicehearts ry — attendees were invited to reflect on the exhibition and enjoy warm discussions at the museum’s own Café Höijer. An art-based workshop followed, where adults and children alike created their ”favorite place” using beeswax — resulting in an array of stunning creations. One Neighbourhood Mother from Helsinki, Selma, reflected on the experience:

”For me, the exhibition was an inspiration and a sign of empowerment for women in their respective abilities and skills. The perseverance and resilience of the women who had to travel abroad to attend art school is a great inspiration that we can achieve what we put our minds to.”

Inspiring March and Heartfelt Gathering

On March 8th, International Women’s Day (Visit an external site. The link opens in a new tab.) began with an inspiring and powerful march from Senate Square to Kansalaistori in Helsinki. Over 100 organizations joined forces to urge parliamentary parties to support the rights of women, girls, and minorities. Neighbourhood Mothers from Espoo, Helsinki, and Vantaa proudly took part, representing Nicehearts ry with enthusiasm and solidarity.

The day concluded with a heartwarming gathering at Allas Sea Pool (Visit an external site. The event was filled with lively discussions, inspiring stories, and meaningful connections. It was a beautiful way to celebrate this special day while strengthening new and existing friendships.

The Power of Women

International Women’s Day is more than just a day; it’s a powerful reminder that the journey for equality continues. The events held throughout Women’s Week 2025 showcased the incredible strength, resilience, and talent of women in our Neighbourhood Mothers’ -communities. By coming together, sharing stories, and supporting one another, we celebrate not only our achievements but also the endless potential that lies ahead.
